Dear friends!

Today we are having a lesson in the form of a “Round table” to discuss the problem of youth suicide.

We have some guests at our lesson, they are teachers of English and can be involved in our discussion.

By the way let me remind you that the form and the term “Round table” was invented in ancient times by king Arthur to make his knight s feel equal to each other.

The theme of our lesson is Is It Easy To Be Young?. We are to discuss the problem of youth suicide and some other that worry you a lot.

To make the plot easier there are some words to explain. So look at the blackboard, please…

adolescence –the age between childhood and adulthood

an adolescent – a teenager

pee pressure – (a pee — a person of your own age)

a sin – грех

a suicide — самоубийство

Основная часть:

It’s a great pity to hear about a series of suicides among the pupils and teenagers lately! It’s such an awful tragedy not only for the families but for all of us! It is unnatural when young die in such a way! A lot of people including parents, teachers, psychologists, even the members of the government try to answer the questions “why?” and “what to do?”

It can be hard to remember how it felt to be a teen, caught in that gray area between childhood and adulthood. Sure, it’s a time of tremendous possibility but it also can be a period of stress and worry. There’s pressure to fit in socially, to perform academically, and to act responsibly.

I’d like you to try answering these questions as you are of the same age. But first of all let’s revise some of your ideas you expressed last year.

-Now share your opinions, please.

Организация обмена мнениями, аргументами, фактами

Вопросы для поддержки дискуссии

— Adolescence is also a time of personal identity and relationships and a need for independence that often conflicts with the rules and expectations set by others.

— What about pee pressure? Can it be a motive to suicide?

— Love disappointment — share your ideas…Can it be a motive to suicide?

-School discourage- is it serious for you?

-Does your family support you in everything you do?

-Addictions – are they dangerous?

-Who can help you to cope with problems?

-How can you help your nearest and dearest if they are depressed?

Заключительная часть урока: вывод, формулирование общего мнения

Learning more about factors that might lead an adolescent to suicide may help prevent further tragedies. Even though it’s not always preventable, it’s always a good idea to be informed and take action to help a troubled teenager.

What Can Parents Do?

Some adults feel that kids who say they are going to hurt or kill themselves are «just doing it for attention.» It’s important to realize that if teens are ignored when seeking attention, it may increase the chance of them harming themselves (or worse).

Keep a close eye on a teen who is depressed and withdrawn. Understanding depression in teens is very important.

It’s important to express your concern, support, and love. If your teen confides in you, show that you take those concerns seriously. It’s important not to minimize or discount what your teen is going through, as this can increase his or her sense of hopelessness.

If your teen doesn’t feel comfortable talking with you, suggest a more neutral person, such as another relative, a clergy member, a coach, a school counselor, or your child’s doctor.

What Should You Remember?

Life is a gift, suicide is a sin.

You are not alone!

There is always the way out!
