Good morning, students! Glad to see you! Sit down, please.

Today we live in the time of information. Where can we get the information? What is Mass Media? Let’s speak about it and discuss it at our lesson. At the end of the lesson please answer this question: What should you do to be well informed person?

1. Give the full names to the television services BBC, ITV
2. Tick the most favourite tv programmes of British teenagers:

3. Work in pairs. Chain quiz: each student answers a question and asks the next student in line the next question, making a chain of questions and answers.

5) Have you ever watched any of those programmes?
6) What kind of videos do British teens usually watch?
7) What types of media are used for broadcasting news?

9) BBC is a terrestrial type of television.

The students should form 3 groups. Each gets matching-card:

BrochureA newspaper that has small pages, short articles and lots of photographs. They are often considered to be less serious than other newspapers.
RagA newspaper that is printed on large sheets of paper measuring approximately 38 cm by 61 cm. They are generally considered to be more serious than other newspapers.
TabloidA magazine or booklet with pictures that gives you information about a product or service.
BroadsheetPeople refer to a newspaper as a rag when they have a low opinion of it.

ReviewA piece of writing in a newspaper or magazine.
Front pageOne of the parts into which a newspaper is divided.
SectionA front page article or picture appears on the front page of a newspaper because it is very important or interesting.
HeadlineThe title of a newspaper story, printed in large letters at the top of it, especially on the front page. Headlines are the main points of the news which are read on radio or TV.
ArticleA report in a newspaper or magazine in which someone gives their opinion of a new book, film, TV programme, record, play or concert.
FeatureA prominent or special article, story, or department in a newspaper or periodical.
SupplementAn article in a publication expressing the opinion of its editors or publishers

ReporterA person whose job is to collect news or other information and write about it in newspapers or magazines or talk about it on TV or radio.
EditorA journalist who regularly writes particular kind of article in a newspaper or magazine.
HackThe person who is in charge of a newspaper and who decides what will be published in it. A journalist who is responsible for a particular section of a newspaper. A person who checks and corrects texts before they are published.
JournalistSomeone who writes new articles or broadcasts new reports.
ColumnistA journalist who writes for money without worrying very much about the quality of their writing.
Foreign correspondentA correspondent who sends news reports or commentary from a foreign country for broadcast or publication.
The groups now should be twisted so every new group must have at least one member from every former one. Their task is to describe the new words to each other.
5. Создание постера
Groups of 5. Time – 5 min
Secretary – notes everything down.
Designer – makes the poster look attractive.
Board of Creative Directors – generate smart ideas.
Proof Reader – checks for mistakes.
Presenter – presents the poster when it’s finished.
When writing down the information, use the plan:
Name of the programme
When is it on?
Age group (Who is it mostly watched by?)

Today we’ve spoken about the Mass Media. Now please answer my question: What should you do to be well informed person?
7. Домашнее задание
Your homework is to choose 1 or 2 questions and think them through.
Think of answers for these questions.
What is in the news in your country at the moment?
What type of mass media do you use, and why do you use that type for?
What do you think of the press in your country? Is it sensationalist and exploitative? Or is it serious and impartial?
Why radio is still one of the favourite types of the media?
